Last year, in partnership with the Jersey Festival of Words, ArtHouse Jersey launched a call out for writers for a new play commission, as part of the commemorations around the centenary anniversary of the First World War.
ArtHouse Jersey sought to commission a new full-length play centred on the theme of war, conflict and resolution; and may also reflect upon the First World War. The selected play could be set in any period, and does not necessarily need to focus on WW1.
The selected writer will receive a fee of £5,500 and will have their piece showcased at the 2018 Jersey Festival of Words.
Alice Bravery, Producer at ArtHouse Jersey, said: “Like all aspects of human life, conflict and peace serve as important points of reflection through the medium of Art. Theatre allows audiences to consider such emotive subjects as War through a different lens, and can have the incredible affect on audiences to heal and act as a force for ethical deliberation and intervention. We hope that the selected play will act as a means for people to connect to these topics, making them more accessible, and act as a gateway to their own personal reflection.”
The play is currently being created and will be performed at the Jersey Festival of Words 2018.
EDIT June 2018 – the winning play has been selected; details will be announced to the public – and on this website – soon.
