Michael Morpurgo is one of the UK’s most treasured storytellers and a perennial favourite on the festival circuit. Wise, thoughtful and quietly funny, he captivates audiences of all ages with the warmth and humanity that have made his books such enduring classics. Best known for the much-loved novel War Horse, Morpurgo’s stories have moved millions of readers around the world. Returning to Jersey Festival of Words for his third visit, he will discuss his new book, Down Burrow Lane: Life and Love on the Farm.

Here is the tale of a little girl of seven, who fell in love with the countryside of Devon and was determined that, when she grew up and became a teacher, to enable as many children as possible to experience the joys of the countryside and nature that she herself loved as a child. So began 50 years ago, the charity Farms for City Children set up by Michael and his wife Clare. The charity now has three farms and has welcomed over 100,000 children for their week down on the farm. This is the best story Michael Morpurgo has ever told, because it is true, and because it goes on to this day and beyond.
