Katie Carr’s memoir traces her decision to complete the sea-kayaking challenge begun by her brother Toby, who died midway through his quest to paddle in every area of the Shipping Forecast. Moving between the wild edges of the British Isles, and the everyday realities of motherhood in Barcelona, Carr explores grief, a difficult family past and midlife reinvention with honesty, humour and an eye for the small moments that keep people going. During this in-conversation event, Katie will talk about developing resilience, creating your own story after illness and death, and setting new challenges in middle age. She will talk openly and honestly and ultimately offer a hopeful look at life, despite times when the forecast is unsettled.
