Geraint Jennings
SHAKESPEARE, LANGUAGE AND JÈRRIAIS
Shakespeare has been an inspiration not only to writers in the English language, but also to national language and literary revivals of the 18th/19th centuries, including the Channel Islands. The plays continue to be reinterpreted in post-colonial literatures. Looking at the recently completed Jèrriais translations of A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest and the Sonnets, Geraint Jennings will explore the background and approaches to Shakespeare in the Islands' vernaculars.
