Sam McAlister is the woman who clinched  infamous interviews for BBC Newsnight with the likes of Bill Clinton, Elon Musk, and of course Prince Andrew. Join us for an engaging talk  of how one person was able to push her way into Buckingham Palace to secure the BAFTA winning interview. Depicted in her autobiographical book Scoops, come along to hear behind-the-scenes tales of the ruthless nature of working in the media, offering a raw and exposed account of the human experience of producing such high profile interviews. From first hand recounted stories, to McAlister’s experience of Netflix producing the hugely successful feature film Scoop, this will be an event as capturing as the interviews themselves. 

 

Sam McAlister worked as a producer for the BBC Newsnight team, securing infamous interviews with the likes of Elon Musk, Bill Clinton, and of course Prince Andrew for the BAFTA winning programme Prince Andrew and the Epstein Scandal in which he sat down with inscrutable journalist Emily Maitlais . Prior to working at the BBC, McAlister was the first member of her family to attend university. Studying at the University of Edinburgh, McAlister became a criminal barrister before working in the media securing high-stakes interviews. Since the interview aired, gaining Prince Andrew global attention, McAlister has left the BBC to write an autobiographical book called Scoops. Subsequently, Netflix have also produced the hugely successful feature film Scoop, which sees Billie Piper play the feisty Sam McAlister. Join us to hear tales of how one woman succeeded in landing countless interviews in which the subjects bare all.
